This is the new CFMOTO 675SR

Since the presentation of the prototype during the CFMOTO Day at the Zhuzhou International Circuit, the Chinese have gradually released some details of the 675SR. The real model won’t be long in coming, prior to the official launch the production model has surfaced in the type approval file.

The documents reveal not only the final appearance of the motorcycle, which is expected to be the first of several models to feature CFMoto’s new three-cylinder, but also key specifications such as power, weight and dimensions.

The most shocking number mentioned in the documents is the number 95, which represents the peak power of CFMOTO’s first three-cylinder motorcycle. That’s a lot less than the ‘more than 100 hp’ that CFMOTO promised last year at the EICMA in Milan, where the prototype was unveiled. This suggests that this is a tweaked version, because 95 hp, or 70 kW, is the maximum power that may be reduced to 35 kW for the A2 license in accordance with the driving license directive.

Now CFMOTO has done this before, with different versions of smaller sports bikes, with higher specified “SR-R” variants in addition to the standard “SR” models. So it is not inconceivable that the 675SR will be the same.

The nearly completed version recently shown in Aspar racing team colors and fitted with track-only parts was called the 675SR-R, suggesting this name will be used for a high-spec variant. However, the engine with the new type approval, codename CF650-10, appears to be the basic version of the 675SR.

Compared to the 675SR-R, this variant lacks the extended winglets on the fairing and has a lower rear with pillion seating and passenger footrests, and is complete with road extras such as mirrors, a license plate holder and full lighting. It can also be concluded from the picture that the indicators (just like with the 450SR) are housed in the mirrors.

The headlights are tucked under the more prominent, whoosh-shaped LED daytime running lights in the nose. However, the front brake cooling ducts seen on the earlier prototypes remain, feeding air to the radial four-piston J.Juan calipers.

Further specifications confirmed in the approval document include the precise displacement of the 674 cc three-cylinder engine and the code name “372MT” for the engine. That name indicates three cylinders and a bore of 72 mm, which means that the stroke should be 55.2 mm. A slightly smaller bore and longer stroke than the 675cc three-cylinders from Triumph (bore 73 mm) and MV Agusta (bore 79 mm).

The rest of the 675SR is as expected, with what appears to be a fully adjustable KYB front fork, similar to those on the CFMoto 800NK, plus an aluminum swingarm. The confirmed dimensions in the type-approval are a wheelbase of 1,400 mm, slightly shorter than, for example, Honda’s CBR650R, and an overall length of 2,019 mm.

The curb weight with a full tank is 194 kilo pounds and the top speed is estimated at 218 km/h. But if this is the tweaked version, as the power figure suggests, it’s likely that the full-power version will be faster.

The 2024 CFMOTO Day is three weeks away and we wouldn’t be surprised if the 675SR will be unveiled to the general (Chinese) public for the first time.
