Hyundai Grandeur

Hyundai presents its new Grandeur. It is the seventh generation of the brand’s top limo, which is being introduced to the South Korean market. Elsewhere, the model is sold as Azera, but it will not come to the Netherlands.

The Hyundai Grandeur has long been regarded as the top of the Hyundai range. The brand is now in the seventh generation of the model, for which it signed a completely new car. It is characterized by a C-pillar drawn further back and split in two, which should make the side view of the large limousine more dynamic. The black line that runs all the way around the lower part of the car also catches the eye, as do the long and thin LED strips at the front and back.

Minimalist design

On the side, we also find automatically sinking handles in the carriage and unstyled doors. Together with the current family face of Hyundai, which carries the brand in other markets with, among other things, the Staria and which is characterized by the straight LED strip, they must ensure that the Grandeur is completely ready for the modern era. That does not necessarily mean that the car – just like this finger exercise based on a primal Grandeur – is fully electric. Hyundai does not yet reveal anything about the powertrains, but given the focus on the home market, a purely electric offer is not in the line of expectation. Hyundai refers to the lever for the direction of travel moved to the steering column as a ‘gear knob’, which would indicate the presence of a gearbox.

In other markets, the car is offered as a Hyundai Azera, although this is not the case on the European. The last top limo from Hyundai that was for sale in the Netherlands was the Grandeur of the fifth generation. It was introduced in 2005 and actually carried that name. The fourth generation was also delivered in the Netherlands under the name XG. This seventh generation will almost certainly pass us by.

Completely new interior

Inside the new Grandeur, Hyundai was inspired by the first Grandeur. The quasi-single-spoke steering wheel is therefore inspired by the actual one-spoke example from that car. Furthermore, the interior is characterized by two optically fused screens and a dashboard that runs through the doors. High-quality but durable materials, in combination with ecologically responsible tanned Nappa leather and mood lighting, should ensure that the Grandeur buyer never gets the idea that he is short of something. A selection of the latest technologies for vehicle safety and comfort also guarantees this.

The thick spoke of the steering wheel refers to the single-spoke steering wheel of the primal Grandeur.

The previous Hyundai Grandeur came on the market in 2016. The seventh generation is expected to make its debut on non-European roads next year.
