Little Vesta
Although Lada has not been active in the Netherlands for years and has become increasingly distant from us in recent years, there are probably still enthusiasts who are passionate about the brand itself. Especially for the Lada enthusiast: a brand new budget station wagon!
Lada currently has the extensive Granta family, the Vesta series and the Niva Legend and Niva Travel in its portfolio. A new model will be added in due course. AutoWeek has found the patent plates of a station wagon in the database of the Russian Federal Institute for Industrial Property (FIPS) that at first glance looks like a facelifted Lada Vesta SW, but is not quite so.
On the patent plates we see a compact station wagon that strongly resembles a Lada VestaSW on which parent company Avtovaz has glued a new snout and a new butt. The overall shape of the front is very similar to the snout of the Vesta and also viewed from the side, this new Lada ‘just’ looks like a Vesta SW. Just look at the large inlets that dive from the front and rear screens into the doors. Yet these inlets are completely different in shape. Not only that, the doors themselves are also different. But there is more evidence that this new Lada reportedly called Iskra is not a beefed-up Vesta SW. Just look at the rear and therefore third side window and the shoulder line. The side window on this new station wagon is considerably shorter and the shoulder line rises much more. The complete front and rear screens are therefore also different.
It is not inconceivable that this new Lada station wagon will eventually be joined by a sedan and perhaps a hatchback. An extensive ‘Iskra’ series could replace the now aging Granta series in the Lada family. What’s hiding under the carriage? That is still the question. In 2020 it was announced that Lada would use Renault/Dacia’s CMF-B-LS platform. Renault has completely gotten rid of Lada and that means that Lada cannot simply put current Renault technology into the ‘Iskra’.
