This is the Volkswagen Tiguan X!

The Volkswagen Tiguan cannot escape the coupé treatment either. The brand presents the Tiguan X to the world, a flattened version of the Tiguan that does not get European asphalt under its wheels.

The Volkswagen Group flattens every SUV that can be flattened and so the Tiguan is also introduced to the ‘Coupé-SUV’ concept. In China, Volkswagen has now presented the Tiguan X: a Tiguan with a more sloping roofline!

The Tiguan X is not the first SUV from Volkswagen to be flattened in China and then get an X after its name. Volkswagen, for example, is supplying the Tayron X based on the Tayron not available here. Sister brand Skoda also has a Coupé-SUV on the menu. The brand supplies the Kodiaq GT, a coupé version of the Kodiaq, known here. The front of this brand new Tiguan X almost completely matches that of the recently facelifted Tiguan, complete with C-shaped chrome strips in the bumper. The biggest external differences with the known Tiguan are of course at the rear of the SUV. At the height of the B-pillar, the roofline is more sloping than the regular Tiguan. Volkswagen is installing completely new light units at the back, units that are connected to each other by a light bar that runs over the entire width of the buttocks. In that strip of lighting, the model name of the car can be read under the Volkswagen logo. The model visible in these photos is designed as R Line, given the bumper work and the ‘R’ in the grille. Most likely, the Tiguan X will only be available in that sporty outfit.

Volkswagen Tiguan X

The Tiguan X is 4.77 meters long, 1.86 meters wide and 1.63 meters high. This makes this new Tiguan variant 28 centimeters longer than the Tiguan as we know it. This is due to the fact that the Tiguan X is based on the Tiguan L, the variant of the Tiguan that is supplied in Europe as Tiguan L. The wheelbase of the Tiguan X corresponds with 2.79 meters to that of the extended Tiguan. The ‘short’ Tiguan has a wheelbase of 2.68 meters. The Tiguan X has been developed by the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture and is not likely to come to Europe with certainty bordering it. In China, the Tiguan X will be released later this year. The car will be available as 330 TSI and 380 TSI, but do not count on outputs of 330 hp and 380 hp respectively. The 330 TSI is 186 hp, while the 380 TSI kicks it to 220 hp. Both petrol engines are linked to a DSG7 automatic transmission.
