‘Amber’
Her elegant name is ‘Amber’, but there is little elegance in this Russian creation. It is a prototype of an electric city car, developed entirely independently by the Russians.
The Russian car industry now largely has to fend for itself, although it can still stick some Russian badges on Chinese cars. It is of course the result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine early last year, after which the Western car industry withdrew from Russia. This also means that the Russians cannot bring new city EVs such as the Dacia Spring or the upcoming Citroën ë-C3 to their doorstep. For example, the Moscow Polytechnic University (MAMI) was commissioned by car manufacturer Avtotor and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop one.
We see the result here. Well, maybe Amber’s real beauty lies within? According to the Russian medium RBC In any case, she is capable of reaching a speed of 80 km/h and this is done thanks to a no less than 5 hp electric motor. Amber lasts about 100 km with a full battery. Even under the special appearance, it is not all that impressive. Anyway, according to RBC this is just a prototype and the end result will look different. Series production should start in 2025 at the factory where BMWs, Kias and Hyundais once rolled off the production line. Times have changed, so to speak.
