This is what you need to know about iOS 15

The new operating system for the iPhone, iOS 15, is now available. What can you expect and is your phone ready for the update?

iOS 15 includes improvements to the audio and video quality of FaceTime and via Shared with you you can quickly see which photos, videos and other content you have received via the Messages app. The focus feature helps you reduce distractions by filtering notifications based on your current activity.

Notifications on your smartphone look different and in the new notifications overview you now see a collection of notifications, so you can view multiple notifications at once when you’re ready. The Maps and Safari app were also overhauled. A full overview of all the new features of iOS 15 can be found on the official apple website.

All new features in iOS 15 can be found on Apple’s website.

Which iPhone versions are supported?

The new operating system does not run on all phones. Apple itself came up with a list of all phones that support the update, so you can easily see whether your device works with iOS 15. A good rule of thumb is in any case: running your iPhone on iOS 14, you can always update your phone to the new version. In concrete terms, this means that you must have at least an iPhone 6S (Plus) to be able to download the new operating system. Both generations of the iPhone SE (2016 and 2020) also support iOS 15, as does the seventh generation of the 2019 iPod Touch.

How to install the update

If you want to install iOS 15, make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS 14.8. If not, you may not find the option to upgrade to the new version. In the Settings app you will find in the menu General the option Software update. From here you can update your operating system to iOS 15. The update will take up 3.2 GB of space, so keep that in mind. Follow the steps and the new operating system will be downloaded and installed. Before downloading, consider backing up your iPhone. In this article we explain how to do that.

Install right away?

iOS 15 has only just been released, so it’s not uncommon for you to run into the necessary teething problems. If you can’t wait for that, it’s better to wait a week or two before updating to the latest version. Do not keep postponing it unnecessarily, otherwise you run the risk of additional security risks.
