Striking and somewhat unloved
The Mazda MX-6 never really became a well-known appearance here, even though it was actually quite a nice model. Fortunately, beautiful specimens sometimes turn up looking for a new owner, such as this red one.
Earlier this month we took a closer look at Mazda’s creativity in the 80s and 90s, when we discovered a nice Xedos 6 from our used car range. We also briefly mentioned the MX-6, another striking creation from that time. Just like the Xedos 6, it is built on the basis of the 626 and is therefore related to various Fords. The MX-6 was not only partly related to the Ford Mondeo, but even more so to the Ford Probe. You can actually see the Probe as an MX-6 with a Ford sauce.
Both the Probe and the MX-6 did not really become the successes that Ford and Mazda had hoped, but that actually makes them extra fun today. After all, they are both quite rare – especially here in the Netherlands. A handsome MX-6 is not easy to find, we only had one as a guest for the first time in ‘In the Wild’ a few years ago. The copy that is now for sale is a year younger and looks a bit more modest. He’s also a bit neater, it seems. The mileage of only 105,000 km and the fact that it has only had one owner undoubtedly contributed to this. In the only clear photo of the interior we don’t see anything crazy, but above all a car that seems to have been handled with care.
All this makes it a rare opportunity, for which you have to pay a lot of money. The asking price is €9,995 and that is not cheap. At the same time, it doesn’t seem like a crazy price to us, because you probably won’t find a second MX-6 like this in the Netherlands anytime soon. By the way, not only is it a more modest example in terms of appearance than the MX-6 that we highlighted in 2021, it also offers less engine-wise. It does not have the 2.5 V6 but a 2.0 four-cylinder engine in its nose. A 116 hp power source that helps it from 0 to 100 km/h in about 10 seconds and to a top speed of 204 km/h. Not particularly sporty, this MX-6, but smooth enough. However, this is mainly about being striking cruising in a car that deserves to be helped towards the age of forty by someone.
