This revolutionary portable air conditioner is worth €200 and saves 80% energy

Aware of the negative impact that traditional air conditioners have on global warming, a French start-up has invented the Hexafresh, an “individual cooling fan” capable of cooling the air without emitting CO2 and with a consumption of moderate energy. The icing on the cake, this innovation would be accessible for less than 200 euros (excluding tax).

Fresh air without the hassle of an air conditioner

To cool the air, the Hexafresh fan uses the Peltier effect. It is a physical phenomenon that manifests itself by a displacement of energy in the form of heat induced by the presence of an electric current. As our colleagues from Futura Sciences point out:

“The Peltier effect occurs when two types of conductors are subjected to a DC voltage. The direction of heat movement depends on the direction of current flow in the conductors, which ensures the reversibility of the system. »

Thus, the product allows zonal air conditioning halfway between a fan and an air conditioner. It is designed for individual and direct use. Concretely, the Hexafresh increases the flow of ambient air while offering a noticeable drop in temperature (-6 and -10°C) in an area of ​​approximately 1.3 to 1.5 m3. On the consumption side, we are talking about an extremely significant gain of around 80%.

Not enough to cool an entire room, but if it is as effective as advertised, the product would keep temperatures acceptable indoors in the event of hot weather, while reducing the impact of human activities on global warming.

Beyond its cooling function, the Hexafresh also dehumidifies the air. In a second step, the company also plans to offer it a function to filter the air and even heat it in winter.

A design in Lebanon and a start-up in France

With its “individual refreshing fan”, the young company Hexafresh stood out by obtaining a prize at the 8th edition of the “Global Innovation & Enterprise” which was held in Paris on June 27th. To develop the project, the three Lebanese engineers behind this idea received a $17,000 prize from the Dutch Embassy.

The idea and design of the project were born in Lebanon, but the economic and financial crisis affecting the country led its founder to make it happen in France. Remember that a strong historical relationship binds the two countries. The product therefore aims to be first marketed in France, then internationally.

A patent awaiting validation has been filed in France and the production of a second version of the prototype is in progress. Once the agreements have been established with the investors and the CE certification has been obtained, a pre-series will be launched by the end of the year. The production of a first batch of approximately 10,000 copies in 2023 should make it possible to stabilize the financial model before offering the product internationally.
