If you visit someone’s profile on LinkedIn, the other person can see it. The user even gets an e-mail or notifications, if he has that setting turned on. If you prefer to browse LinkedIn anonymously, that is also possible. We explain how that works.
It may seem a bit crazy to remain anonymous on a platform where social interaction is important. You don’t do that on Facebook and Twitter, do you? The big difference is of course that these platforms do not give a notification every time your profile is visited.
There may be good reasons to remain anonymous on LinkedIn, for example if you’re visiting profiles of employees at a competing company and you don’t want to give the impression that you’re applying for a job. And as a recruiter, you may not want to be approached every time you visit a profile.
Whatever the reason, you can choose to remain anonymous on LinkedIn.
That’s how you do that
To do this, go to the LinkedIn website and click on your profile icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen. Choose here Settings and privacy and then for Visibility in the menu on the left of the screen. Right at the top you will find Options for viewing profiles. There are three choices in this menu. At the first choice, Your name and headlineyour name and occupation will be shown in full to the person whose profile you are visiting.
Bee Profile’s private attributes you can also choose to give only part of it. For example, people will only see where you work. Your name cannot be seen. If you want complete anonymity, choose Private mode. The other then sees that an anonymous LinkedIn member has visited his profile.
Limits
If you choose one of the last two options, LinkedIn will warn you that you can no longer see who has viewed your profile. The overview of profile visitors is also deleted. Only if you have a Premium account, you can remain anonymous yourself, while you can see who has visited your profile.
A workaround is by simply not logging in when you want to view a LinkedIn profile. The disadvantage of this is that you only see the public profile of the user. For example, you miss ways to contact us or to view an extensive resume.
