This way, you can listen to podcasts via the Apple Podcasts app in your browser

You no longer need an app to listen to your favorite podcasts via Apple’s Podcasts app. We show you how to listen to a podcast in your browser.

Apple Podcasts now in your browser

Apple has given its podcast website a major overhaul, it found 9to5Mac. As a result, the web pages look nicer, with a sleeker design that better matches the other apps from Apple and the Podcasts app for iOS.

The pages not only look better, but have also become a lot more functional. For example, the full description of an episode can be read, instead of just the title. Handy if you are looking for a specific podcast, but the titles are all similar.

Instead of just showing a podcast and directing you to iTunes, you can now just start listening from a tab in your browser. Apple still suggests using iTunes, but it is no longer required. This works as follows.

  1. Search for a podcast page via the Apple (or Google) website;
  2. Press ‘Play’ below the image to listen to the most recent podcast;
  3. Press Play under a specific episode to listen to it.

At the time of writing, the new pages are being rolled out. So it may take a while for all podcasts to support this new design.

Handy for school or work

This feature isn’t intended to completely replace the podcast app, but it can come in handy if you can’t download or install programs at work or school, for example. In that case, all you have to do is open a browser tab and start listening right away.

Apple is by no means the only one to have such a web player for podcasts. The alternative podcast apps from Overcast and Outcast also have a similar function. Also check out our article with the best podcast apps for iOS.
