We have named the Kia EV6 as our 2021 Car of the Year, that’s how excited we are about the electric crossover. But even the best models on the market have their quirks. So we present: three advantages and three disadvantages of the EV6 that you as a potential buyer / lease driver should know.
As an electric car, the Kia EV6, together with its Hyundai brother, sets new standards in its class. In fact, he overtakes the Ioniq 5 on the right. The battery pack of the test car delivers 77.4 kWh, while 72.4 kWh is the maximum with the Hyundai. This results in a WLTP range of 528 kilometers. And thanks to a charging capacity of 240 kW, a battery pack discharged to 10 percent is back at 80 percent in 18 minutes.
Kia currently offers four variants: with a 58 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive (170 hp, 350 Nm), with a 77.4 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive (229 hp, 350 Nm), with a 77.4 kWh battery and four-wheel drive (325 hp, 605 Nm) and the GT with 586 hp and 740 Nm. The top version goes to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 260 km/h. But that is not one of the advantages (or disadvantages) that we list below.

+ Advantage 2 – Driver Only button works very well
A well-kept secret of electric Kia’s and Hyundai’s is the Driver Only button, with which the climate control system only cools or warms the driver. That saves power…
+ Advantage 3 – Handy, USB ports in the handrail
Simple but ingenious: USB ports in the back of the front seats of the Kia EV6. You can get to it very easily and nobody will kick it.
– Disadvantage 1 – Clocks disappear behind the wheel
Such a large digital instrumentation is of course beautiful, but just like with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, part of the screen disappears behind the edge of the steering wheel.
– Disadvantage 2 – It is compromised in the back seat
In the back seat of the EV6, you have to compromise with the space: you sit on a low bench, your knees stick up and your feet do not fit under the front seats.
– Disadvantage 3 – The rear view is limited
The EV6 is 4.70 meters long and rear visibility is very limited. The technology helps the driver where possible with a reversing camera and a blind spot warning. And that’s necessary too…
