People will soon be able to choose to temporarily delete their photos and videos on Instagram. It is then possible to restore them, should they regret it.
Temporarily delete posts for others
Instagrammers regularly take posts offline, for example because they have few likes, because it has an ex or because they seem a bit boring afterwards. Later, users may regret it, but then they have already disappeared. Facebook’s photo app therefore comes with a feature that allows users to archive their posts.
The feature will be rolled out in the coming months, Instagram has disclosed opposite TechCrunch. Not everyone will see the function yet. “We continue to test new ways to improve Instagram,” said a spokesperson.
Archive Instagram posts
This is how archiving a post works:
- Open the Instagram app;
- Go to a photo or video that you want to temporarily remove;
- Tap the ‘…’ button at the top right of the screen;
- Choose ‘Archive’;
- The photo or video immediately disappears in your personal Instagram archive.
You can view all archived posts via an icon at the top right of your profile page. This icon looks like a clock that turns back time. If you choose a picture or movie from your archive, you can always put it back on the profile via the ‘…’ button. The post is then visible to everyone again.
New Instagram Features
Instagram makes it easy to make posts disappear temporarily for other users with this feature. Therefore, they no longer need to be completely removed. This gives people even more the opportunity to organize their profile as they wish.
New update for discover
Instagram has added even more features to the app. On the discover page (via the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen) you will now find a new kind of story, which is tied to your location. These are Instagram Stories that were made in Nijmegen, for example, if you are also in Nijmegen at that time. In this way, stories are made more public to others. A location sticker must be added for this.
If you are now looking for specific hashtags, then that overview will also show a special collection of stories to which such a hashtag has been added.
