Tip: Only share Instagram Stories with your best friends

Some things you only want to share with your best friends, not all of Instagram. We show how mutual jokes and private matters remain within the group.

Instagram good friends: this is how you keep Stories within the group

One of Instagram’s most used features is Stories. In short clips people share their lives with others, but some things you prefer not to hang on the big clock. Fortunately, Instagram makes it possible to share your life only with your best friends. You do this by compiling a list of your favorite people so that your Story stays within the group:

  1. Open the Instagram app on your iPhone and go to your profile;
  2. Tap the three lines in the top right and choose ‘Good friends’;
  3. Select your best friends from the list of all contacts;
  4. Confirm your choice and create a Story as usual;
  5. You can then share a Story with anyone or only best friends.

Fake accounts on Instagram

You can add as many people as you want to your best friends list, but this of course puts you at risk of private matters ending up in the outside world. Your friends will see while viewing your photos and videos that you share this Story with them in confidence, so it is not public.

By the way, people cannot send you a request to join the group. It is not visible to others anyway whether you have a list of best friends or not. Instagram added the feature in 2018 when it turned out that many people were using so-called ‘finstagrams’. These are fake profiles used to divide photos and videos that are unsuitable for their main account.
