Since the release of iOS 9, it has been possible to open zip files in the Notes app. iPhoned shows exactly how it works.
Open zip files
Zip files are widely used to merge multiple files into one larger file. They are useful, for example, if you have to email many different photos, but do not want to upload them one by one. This makes it easy for both yourself and the recipient.
The Notes app, installed by default on every iOS device, is capable of opening zip files. This is due to the fact that the application can be found in the share menu of iOS. This allows you to open zip files found in Safari with a few taps. We explain it below.
- Open Safari and click on a zip file that you found on a web page, for example;
- An empty screen will then appear on the screen. At the top left, choose ‘Open with…’ and tap the Notes app in the share menu;
- Optionally add a text to the note and press ‘Save’;
- Close Safari and finally open the Notes app to open the zip file.
And that was it! With the Notes app you can easily and quickly open zip files on your iPhone or iPad. It is also possible to check zip files from the iCloud Drive app or in Mail. This works in the same way.
