Just call your brother or send your mother a message: it can be done even faster via Siri. For example, with Siri you can add relationship labels to your contacts.
Contact friends and family faster than ever
You can ask for help with the voice assistant on your iPhone for all kinds of tasks, for example to call someone, send a message or e-mail. It’s even more convenient to give your most frequently used contacts a relationship label, so that you don’t have to say their name every time for Siri to take action. You can set this very easily.
Add relationship labels with Siri
To activate Siri, press and hold the home button or on an iPhone X or later the lock button. It is also possible to summon the voice assistant with ‘Hey, Siri’. You have to activate this first. You do this by going to ‘Siri and search’ in Settings and switching on ‘Listen to Hey Siri’ there.
To then assign a relationship to a contact, say, for example, “Jonas is my brother,” “Lars is my colleague,” or “Anne is my daughter.” Siri will ask if this should be remembered, and you confirm this by pressing ‘Yes’.
Then when you want to contact your brother, cousin, colleague or grandmother, all you have to do is ask Siri to ‘Call sister’ or ‘Send a message to grandma’. Especially if you have friends and family members with their first name and last name in your phone, that saves quite a bit of effort.
Do you want to change a relationship? Then tell Siri “Contact is now my relationship X”. To remove the relationship, say, for example, “Contact X is no longer my husband.” It is also always possible to change this data manually. You do this as follows.
- Go to the Contacts app;
- Select your own contact card at the top of the contact list;
- Tap Edit, then tap Add Relationship to add someone. Enter the name here or press the i icon to select a contact. Tap the relationship band to change it;
- You can delete a relationship label by tapping the red icon and pressing ‘Delete’;
- When everything has been adjusted, tap Done.
