Tip: Switch from Spotify to Apple Music (and vice versa)

Tired of Spotify, or are you tired of Apple Music? In this article, we’ll explain how to transfer your entire music library from one music service to another. This is how you switch from Spotify to Apple Music (or vice versa).

From Spotify to Apple Music, or vice versa

When you switch from one music service to another, you naturally want to take all your carefully collected albums, songs and playlists with you. That is not very easy, because streaming services do everything they can to keep you as a customer.

Fortunately, there are apps and websites that make switching easier. In this article, we highlight two such services. One website is free, the other paid. With these services, you can switch from Spotify to Apple Music, or go the opposite way.

1. Tune My Music

Tune My Music is a free way to bring your albums, playlists and favorite songs from Spotify to Apple Music. When switching, you must log in to both music services: so keep your login details to hand:

  1. On your Mac, go to the Tune My Music website;
  2. Indicate the ‘source’ of your music files, Spotify or Apple Music;
  3. Log in to the music service you have checked and indicate which music you want to transfer;
  4. Choose the ‘destination’, so Apple Music or Spotify and log in;
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the switch.

Switching doesn’t always go well. Not all music services have the same songs in their range, so you suddenly come across bare playlists after the switch. The same goes for podcasts: Spotify has been investing heavily in these audio shows for a few years now, but you won’t come across them in Apple Music. So you cannot transfer them.

2. FreeYourMusic

Don’t have your Mac(Book) to hand? Then you can use FreeYourMusic to transfer your oeuvre. This service is not only available for Mac and Windows, but also on Android and iOS. The free version allows you to transfer 100 songs and 1 playlist at a time.

For a fee (one-time 8.99 euros) you can transfer as many songs as you want for the rest of your life. In addition, the premium version of FreeYourMusic syncs playlists and albums in the background. This is ideal if you often change music service.

  1. downloadd FreeYourMusic on your iPhone;
  2. Log in to your Apple Music/Spotify account;
  3. Select which music you want to transfer;
  4. Sign up to the ‘receiving’ music service;
  5. The transfer can begin.
