In Instagram it is now possible to restrict accounts. This allows you to combat bullies without having to block them immediately. This is how you restrict accounts in Instagram with the new Restrict feature.
Limiting Instagram comments: this is how you do it
It was already possible to block or report users on Instagram. But if you still see these users every day, that is just a step too far for some people. With ‘Restrict’ you can easily ignore annoying accounts. This is how you restrict an account in six steps:
- Open the Instagram app on your phone;
- Go to your profile by pressing the button at the bottom right;
- In your profile, tap the three lines at the top right and choose ‘settings’;
- Press ‘privacy’;
- Under the heading ‘connections’ you choose ‘limited accounts’;
- Here you can enter the username of the person you want to restrict.
There are two other ways to ignore annoying Instagram users:
- Swipe left on an unwanted comment and choose ‘restrict’;
- In the profile that you want to limit, go directly to the three dots at the top right and select ‘limit’.
Invisible protection for your account
By removing unwanted comments, only you and the person who posted the comment can still see them. That way, the bully knows nothing, and you can still protect your account. If you don’t want to see the comment anymore, you can also delete it. Was it a mistake? Then you can also choose to show the reaction.
If the bully sends you a direct message, you will no longer receive a notification on your phone. You must also first ‘accept’ the message if you would like to reply.
