Did you know there is an option to scrap the download limit for apps? You can also download large apps and substantial updates via 4G. iPhone shows how to do this.
App downloads over 4G in iOS 13
Last year, Apple made it possible to download apps and updates of up to 200MB over a 4G connection, making it impossible to download larger installation files without Wi-Fi. This is useful in itself, because this prevents you from accidentally downloading a large app (update) and so quickly going through your data bundle.
However, this is less pleasant for users with a large data bundle, because it is not so quickly a problem for them if an app of, for example, 400MB is downloaded. To accommodate those people, Apple introduced an option with iOS 13 to remove the download limit altogether. You can then download larger apps and games via your 4G connection. To cancel the limit, follow the steps below.
- Go to the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad;
- Swipe down until you see ‘iTunes Store and App Store’ and tap on it;
- Under the heading ‘Mobile data’, choose ‘App downloads’;
- Then select ‘Always allow’ to ensure that apps larger than 200MB are also downloaded via your mobile internet connection.
And that was it! From now on there is no longer a limit for app downloads in iOS 13. You can also choose the option ‘Ask if larger than 200MB’, so that you will first receive a warning when a large app is downloaded, and then send it correctly or disapproves. You can also set your iPhone to always ask for permission first. With all three options, however, you get the option to download downloads larger than 200MB without any problems.
More helpful tips
iOS 13 of course provides many more useful features. For example, it is possible to share something directly via WhatsApp with contact suggestions and you can now operate your iPad with a mouse or trackpad. It is also possible to connect to a WiFi network in no time.
