Take screen recording on your iPhone or iPad

The screen capture feature will come in handy more often than you might think. With this function you can very easily help a family member with a (difficult) problem on the iPhone or iPad. Making a screen recording is also useful if you want to save a piece from a video from YouTube without fuss. And the beauty of it? Taking a screen shot is a snap.

Let’s check: record button in the Control Panel

The button to take a screen recording on your iPhone or iPad is located in the Control Center. You open the Control Center on an iPhone X or later by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen. On an older device, you can see the panel by swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen.

If the record button isn’t in your Control Center, you’ll need to add it first. Open the Settings and tap the Control panel option. Go to ‘More controls’ and tap the green plus sign next to the ‘Screen recording’ option. With the three stripes on the right you can change the order of the functions as you wish.

Step-by-step plan: make screen recording iPhone

To take a screen recording on your iPhone, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Control Panel;
  2. Tap the record button (this is the icon with the dot);
  3. After three seconds, the screen recording will start;
  4. When you’ve captured the screen shot, tap the red button at the top left;
  5. Choose ‘Stop’ to stop the screen recording;
  6. Your screenshot is saved in the Photos app.

If you also want to give your own comments with your screen recording, it is possible to switch on the microphone as well. The method is then slightly different.

  1. Open the Control Panel;
  2. Press and hold the record button;
  3. Turn on the microphone by tapping the microphone icon;
  4. Tap ‘Start recording’.

You can now take a video of your iPhone or iPad screen and tell what is happening on the screen.

Don’t forget: post-edit iPhone screen recording

The video you just shot can be viewed in the Photos app. We recommend that you update the video for a while. Often there is still a part of the Control Panel visible at the beginning of the video or you are still trying to go to the correct app.

Opening the video in the Photos app and tapping Edit will customize the screen capture. Among other things, you can also find the option to change the contrast or crop the video. And you don’t like the spoken commentary? Then you can remove the sound from your screen recording here.

Do you really want to turn your screen recording into something beautiful? Then you can also use an app to edit the video. You can read more about this in the article below.
