The Dark Mode is for many the most important innovation of macOS Mojave. But how do you actually activate the feature, and where do you find the corresponding options? iPhone show how it works in this tip.
Dark mode in macOS Mojave
If you run macOS 10.14 Mojave on your Mac (Book), then you are probably curious about the dark mode that gives the operating system a different touch. When installing the test version, you will be asked which mode (dark or light you want to use), but you can always switch the feature on or off. However, it may take a while to find out exactly where this option is. Therefore, follow the steps below.
- Open the System Preferences on your Mac by clicking the ‘Apple logo> System Preferences’ at the top. You can also select the System Preferences application in your Dock;
- Then choose ‘General’;
- After this you will see the option to switch dark mode on or off at the top under ‘Display’.
It is quite simple to switch between lighter and dark mode. With the Dark Mode, for example, the Dock, menu bar, Mac App Store and many other Apple apps get a dark appearance. This makes it nicer to use your Mac (Book) in the evenings, especially if you combine the feature with Night Shift.
However, there are faster ways to turn dark mode on and off. You can use the Mac apps DarkSome and NightOwl to add an icon to your menu bar. If you click on this, you automatically switch to dark or light mode. It is also easier to set at what times the dark mode should go on.
Since the release of macOS Mojave, Google Chrome has also gained Dark Mode support. With the update to macOS 10.14.4, Safari’s dark mode becomes more comprehensive.
macOS Mojave review
MacOS Mojave has been available to all users since the end of September. We have extensively tested the update and you can read the conclusion of the review below.
Finally, Apple comes with a macOS update that contains enough cool features to get really excited. Your Mac (Book) will not necessarily be faster, but the Dark Mode will give it a nice new look and also help you to keep your desktop tidy. Those two features alone make Mojave interesting enough in our opinion, although there are also plenty of smaller adjustments that make the operating system a bit smarter.
