Did you know that you can also type symbols and emoji with the keyboard of your MacBook? We explain how to do that.
This is how you type emoji and symbols with your MacBook
Suppose you are typing a text and want to use an arrow for clarification. You don’t have to look for a symbol and then copy it. You already have the entire range of emoji and symbols in the keyboard of your MacBook. This is how you view the complete range with a handy shortcut:
- Open a program where you can edit text, such as an email, or click on a text field;
- Press the following keys simultaneously: control + command + space;
- You will now see a shortcut menu of emoji. Click at the bottom to search for the desired emoji;
- If you would like a symbol, such as an arrow (→), click on the two arrows (>>) on the right-hand side.
You will now see the range of symbols. From constellations to a complete assortment of domino stones: all shapes are present. This is the fastest way to type a symbol or emoji. Especially when you are not typing in a text field with a special emoji button, this way is very useful.
There is a second way to tap emoji and symbols with your MacBook. To do this, tap ‘Edit’ at the top, and then tap ‘Emoji & Symbols’ at the bottom. You will then also see the quick menu. It is important that you have clicked the window in which you are typing.
