Our body is forced to constantly adapt to the external circumstances so that it can maintain its core temperature of around 37 degrees. This process is called thermoregulation. If the body adapts to the heat, fatigue can arise.

At high temperatures, the following happens in the body:

  • The body doesn’t want to overheat.
  • It therefore gives warmth by sweating.
  • The blood vessels of the skin widen.
  • As a result, blood pressure drops.
  • The oxygen supply to the brain is less.

This cooling mechanism is associated with loss of fluid, low blood pressure and lack of oxygen in the brain. All of this can make us tired and limp in the heat.

In addition, the body wants to avoid any additional stress due to movement in the heat to prevent an increase in body temperature. Therefore, heat fuss is.

By the way: People with chronic diseases such as diabetes or cardiovascular disorders feel the swings and extreme temperatures particularly strong. Special caution is required for them.

If you feel tired of the heat, there are some things that you can do about it. Basically, it is important to keep a healthy and balanced lifestyle so that your body remains adaptable at high temperatures.

You can do this in concrete terms to prevent and counteract heat creation:

  • Drink a lot of water. The body loses liquid by sweating. In addition to unsweetened teas, water is the healthiest thirst quencher.

  • Sleep enough. Unfortunately, this is not always easy in the heat. But only if you sleep enough at night do you have more energy during the day, even in heat. Here you will find a few tips: 10 common mistakes that keep you awake in the heat.

  • Sufficient breakfast. After a balanced breakfast, your body stays awake and fit for longer. The fatigue in the heat occurs later or less.

  • Eat light food. Easy digestible foods such as salad, vegetables, fruits or soups and smoothies are particularly good.

  • Move regularly. Movement stimulates the circulation through oxygen supply. This is how you prevent fatigue in heat. However, avoid sports in the midday sun and move more in the morning and evening.

To avoid fatigue in the heat, you can follow the tips mentioned above. At the same time, there are some things that you shouldn’t do at high temperatures to avoid heat creation.

You should do without this in the heat:

  • Ice -cold drinks: You could get stomach cramps, which affects further fluid intake. Cool drinks, on the other hand, can be refreshing and, contrary to a widespread assumption, do not bring your body to create even more heat by warming up in the stomach.

  • Difficult to digest food: This includes fatty foods and difficult -digestible foods such as legumes – even if the latter are a very healthy and sustainable food. The body also consumes energy in the digestive process for processing these foods, so that you should only consume it in moderation in heat.

  • Drinking alcohol: Alcohol deprives the body of water and can contribute to fatigue in heat. But not only that: in high heat alcohol consumption can even be really dangerous.

  • Stay inside: This reduces the oxygen supply to the brain and can lead to us feel tired and energy.

Tip: In another post we present a further seven mistakes that you should avoid in the heat. Stick to these tips to counteract fatigue at high temperatures.
