Toyota C-HR

Curious about the prices of the brand new Toyota C-HR? Then you no longer have to wait. The new Toyota C-HR has a Dutch starting price of €37,295. That amount is for the least potent hybrid engine version. The new C-HR is also available with a stronger hybrid drivetrain and as an even stronger plug-in hybrid.

In the middle of this year, Toyota pulled the curtain on the long-awaited new C-HR. Anyone who would have thought that Toyota would take a less pronounced path with the second generation will be disappointed. Just like the car with which Toyota entered a new phase in 2016, according to then CEO Akio Toyoda, in which it said it would no longer make boring cars, the new C-HR is also a nice, idiosyncratic crossover full of brutal lines, a sloping roofline and a high buttocks. AutoWeek can now tell you what the new Toyota C-HR should cost. The first copies are expected in the Netherlands around the turn of the year.

Hybrid Toyota C-HR

The new Toyota C-HR is available from €37,295. For that amount you can drive the Toyota C-HR 1.8 Hybrid with a 140 hp hybrid powertrain. The starting price applies to the entry-level Active version. The Toyota C-HR with this powertrain is also available as Dynamic, First Edition and Executive. With this powertrain, the Toyota C-HR reaches a speed of 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds and has a top speed of 170 km/h. According to the Japanese, average consumption is a not bad 4.7 to 4.8 l/100 km.

Is that 140 hp too little for you? No problem. Toyota also offers the new C-HR with the well-known 2.0 High Power Hybrid drivetrain that produces 190 hp. The entry-level Active version overtakes the C-HR with this machine, as it is available from the Dynamic version and costs €42,495. Just like the C-HR 1.8 Hybrid, the C-HR 2.0 High Power Hybrid is also available as a First Edition and as an Executive Line, but is also available as a GR Sport Plus, Première Edition and as a GR Sport Première Edition. With its 190 hp, the C-HR 2.0 High Power Hybrid is of course faster than the version with 50 hp less. It reaches a speed of 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.9 seconds and should be able to reach a speed of 190 km/h. Average consumption should be 4.8 to 4.9 l/100 km.

Plug-in hybrid Toyota C-HR

The third hybrid powertrain with which the Toyota C-HR is available is immediately the most interesting. For the first time, the C-HR is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. That’s certainly not childish. The Toyota C-HR 2.0 High Power Plug-in Hybrid – as it is fully called – has 223 hp. It has a 13.6 kWh battery that enables an electric range of up to 66 kilometers. The maximum charging power (AC) is 7 kW. You can reach a speed of 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The top speed of 180 km/h is the same as that of the 190 hp hybrid C-HR. The plug-in hybrid Toyota C-HR is available in the same versions as the 190 hp 1.8 High Power Hybrid and costs at least €45,995 as Dynamic.

Equipment

The hybrid C-HR 1.8 Hybrid already has the Toyota Safety System 3 package as standard with an extensive range of passive and active safety systems. This not only includes things such as blind spot detection, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist and Pre-Collision System, but also extensive adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, a system that reminds you of the presence of something or someone in the back seat when you get out and Safe Exit Assist. . 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, electric side windows all around, LED headlights and taillights, an infotainment system with 8-inch display and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also standard.

The Dynamic version adds dual-zone climate control, lumbar support for the driver, an interior finished with softer materials and 18-inch alloy wheels. More Dynamic decoration: the window frames and B-pillars are in black and the rear side windows and the rear window have the so-called privacy glass. The Dynamic also has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a rain sensor, Smart Entry and an additional emergency braking system.

Are you going for a temporary introductory version First Edition? Compared to the Dynamic version, you get a 12.3-inch and therefore larger infotainment screen, steering LED headlights with automatic high beams, an electrically operated tailgate, an induction charger and cameras around the car.

And the Executive? It has sports seats upholstered in a combination of artificial leather and fabric, extensive ambient lighting and an extensive air filter system for the interior, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function and 19-inch black alloy. You can also recognize it by extra black accents in the bumpers. This version also adds Driver Monitor Camera, Front Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Change Assist to the C-HR party. This version can be optionally equipped with a package that adds, among other things, a panoramic roof, a digital interior mirror, a head-up display, an extensive audio system from JBL and the option to use your smartphone as a car key. That package costs €2,950 extra for the hybrid C-HR and has an additional price of €2,809 for the plug-in hybrid C-HR.

We’re not there yet, because there are still a few versions available. Including the GR Sport Plus. This sporty version has sports seats upholstered in artificial leather and suede with red stitching and a sports steering wheel finished with artificial leather and red stitching. Special door sills and floor mats are included, as are the necessary GR Sport badges, differently decorated bumpers and 19-inch GR Sport wheels. This version is also available with the package described above. The C-HR Première Edition has the bi-tone+ exterior that makes the roof and the rear black. In the interior you will find perforated leather-covered furniture and the package described above appears to be standard. The GR Sport Première Edition gets different mesh in the grille, sportier-looking 20-inch alloys, special interior finishes, the now well-known option package and the two-tone appearance.

Toyota Corolla Cross: more spacious, less fuss and slightly cheaper.

Busy at Toyota

Toyota already has a whole bunch of long-legged cars in its range. From the Aygo X loaded with cross genes to the Yaris Cross, Corolla Cross, RAV4, the electric bZ4X, the almost forgotten Highlander and the new Land Cruiser. With a length of 4.36 meters, it is slightly shorter than its predecessor. In terms of size, it nestles between the 4.16 meter long Yaris Cross and the 4.46 meter long Corolla Cross. The Corolla Cross should be seen as the more down-to-earth, practical and spacious alternative to the C-HR with less optical fuss. The Corolla Cross – although slightly larger – is slightly cheaper than the C-HR. As a 140 hp 1.8 Hybrid, it is available from €36,695 (C-HR: €37,395). The previous Toyota C-HR cost at least €33,395 with that drivetrain as a Business and €34,995 as an Active. The Corolla Cross is not available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
