Last weekend, the Belgian Le Mans shook again to its foundations as the 88th 24 hours of Le Mans was held. Toyota seized this world-famous race to introduce the public to its new Le Mans racer. Ultimately, an extreme street-legal version of that track tiger must also go into production.
Toyota is working hard behind the scenes on a new hypercar: the GR Super Sport. The hybrid racing gun can of course be found on the track later, but it must also end up on the public road in an adapted version. The crack nose was used by Toyota for a demonstration lap around the circuit. Toyota still camouflaged the open hypercar with the red-white-gray-black print that is well-known from Toyota’s sporty branch. Former Toyota Gazoo Racing driver Alex Wurz was behind the wheel of the GR Super Sport.
The new hypercar is not based, but is inspired by the 2-time Le Mans winner TS050 HYBRID. Toyota won the race with that car last year, and the brand has also set the lap record at Circuit de la Sarthe with it. Toyota has not released anything about the new hypercar itself. For example, nothing is known about the powertrain or when Toyota will reveal the car definitively.
After the ceremony, it was of course also high time to start the insane long race. Drivers Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Kazuki Nakajima once again won the prize for Toyota. Together they completed 387 laps.
