Bomb 2.0

‘Toyota GR Yaris becomes stronger and gets automatic’

The Toyota GR Yaris is already an amazing Yaris on all fronts, but it can always be even crazier. It looks like the Japanese bomb will soon be renewed and will have a much stronger version of the 1.6 in its nose.

Toyota managed to get things right in 2020 with the GR Yaris. While the GRMN version from a generation earlier was fun, the GR Yaris pushed all the boundaries. A 261 hp hot hatch pocket-sized, with four-wheel drive. Pretty much the epitome of Toyotas no more boring cars-credo. Toyota proved that even the Toyota GR Yaris was not yet the absolute cream of the crop in its home country of Japan with the latest GRMN Yaris. This also turned out to not be the end of the sportiest Yaris chapter. Now reports the Japanese Best Car namely that a major upgrade is in store for the Toyota GR Yaris.

The already crazy 1.6 three-cylinder that is now in the Toyota GR Yaris would make way for a more powerful copy. One that produces no less than 304 hp and 370 Nm. Well-known figures? Certainly. The Toyota GR Corolla already has that in its nose. So a very plausible change. However, it doesn’t stop there: the Toyota GR Yaris is now available with a six-speed manual gearbox, but with the update Toyota would install an eight-speed automatic transmission that can be operated with paddle shifters. That obviously makes the GR Yaris just that little bit faster, although we also hope that the manual gearbox will remain an option. We will reportedly receive a sign of life from the updated Toyota GR Yaris sometime in the coming months.
