The bullet is through the church: the Toyota GR86 is coming to the Netherlands. The further development of the GT86 is expected to be at dealers in the spring of 2022.

In April, Toyota pulled the curtain on the international version of the GR86, a thorough development of the GT86 fun machine. Toyota thus proves that there is also room for a rear-wheel drive coupé with a naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine in a European car market dominated by electric newcomers.

In contrast to the GT86, the petrol engine is not a 2.0, but a 2.4 liter four-cylinder boxer engine that is significantly more potent with 234 hp and 250 Nm than the 200 hp and 205 Nm strong machine in the GT86. The GR86, in combination with the six-speed manual transmission, accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and has a top speed of 236 km/h in that configuration. Toyota will also supply the GR86 with a six-speed automatic transmission. If you choose that transmission, you have to settle for a 0-100 time of 6.9 seconds and a top of 216 km/h.

Although the GR86 is in fact built around the same base as the GT86, that base has been further developed. For example, the 4.27 meter long coupé is up to 50 percent stiffer than its predecessor and the use of lightweight materials, among other things, ensures a weight reduction of 20 kilos. Toyota mentions, among other things, the presence of a differential lock. The transmissions switch faster than before and those who put the GR86 in Track mode can, among other things, switch off the stability control. The steering has also been modified. Handy: the backrests of the rear seats can be folded down to increase the luggage space.
Toyota reports that the version of the GR86 intended for the European market will be unveiled on December 2. Prices will follow in the run-up to the Dutch market launch.
