Hybrid has been the magic word at Toyota for years. Now that the brand is increasingly focusing its attention on fully electric cars after a long wait in Europe, it is the Toyota Hilux that is finally introduced to a form of electrification.
In the Netherlands, the Toyota Hilux has always had to make do without any form of electrification. Toyota has already shown a Hilux with a fuel cell, but that version is still a thing of the future for the car market. By the middle of next year, the Toyota Hilux in the Netherlands will really be introduced to a form of electrification. The Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48v is coming to our country and it is that version that we can now tell you more about.
Admittedly, we have known for months that the Hilux would get a mild-hybrid variant. In June we tracked down the mild-hybrid Toyota Hilux in Australia and we were recently able to confirm that a Hilux with a mildly electrified powertrain is also coming to the Netherlands. We now know more about the technology of the Hilux with electric assistance.
The Toyota Hilux is also available with a 150 hp 2.4 diesel engine and a larger 2.8 that produces 204 hp. The Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48v also gets the 204 hp and 500 Nm strong 2.8, although in this case the machine is supported by a 48v mild-hybrid system. This includes a small 48v lithium battery that drives a 16 hp and 65 Nm strong electric motor generator. That power is used during acceleration, among other things, and that of course saves a few milliliters of diesel. According to Toyota, the average consumption of the Hilux with mild-hybrid 2.8 is up to 5 percent lower than that of the 204 hp variant without electric assistance. Other benefits: more direct throttle response, quieter engine restart and lower idle speed. The Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48v will initially only come to the Netherlands as a Double Cab. The loading capacity (1,000 kilos) and the maximum towing weight (3.5oo kilos) are unchanged.
More
More Hilux news under the sun? Certainly. For the first time, the pickup gets Toyota’s new Multi-Terrain Select system that allows you to choose from driving modes such as Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow and Rock. The Hilux Hybrid 48v benefits from an updated Toyota Safety Sense package of safety systems that includes an improved version of Pre-Collision System and Lane Departure Alert. Automatic high beam? From the party. But there is even more. The Hilux Hybrid 48v gets the latest Toyota infotainment system with an 8-inch display and new software.
The mild-hybrid Toyota Hilux Hybrid 48v will be available mid-next year. Prices are not available yet.
