‘Carbon is the enemy’

Toyota, Mazda and Subaru are joining forces to develop new combustion engines. At the same time, the three companies underline that ‘carbon is the enemy’. The engines are therefore prepared for alternative fuels.
At Toyota, Mazda and Subaru they believe in ‘multiple paths’ to a cleaner fleet. In that so-called ‘multi-pathway‘approach also includes combustion engines. The three Japanese companies now announce that they will jointly develop a new generation of fuel engines. These are created with the idea of reducing CO2 emissions, because the Japanese call carbon ‘the enemy’. Fossil fuels will eventually have to be sidelined with these new engines.
The combustion engines are developed with a view to using alternative fuels. For example, they must be prepared for synthetic fuels, biofuels, but also for the combustion of hydrogen. Toyota has been experimenting with the latter for years and this should also be possible for the general public with these engines. The engines must also be easier to integrate into a partially electric drivetrain and take up less space in the car.
