Pope Francis may add a new vehicle to his automobile fleet. Toyota has converted the Mirai into a pope mobile!
Pope Francis has been handed a new pope mobile in Vatican City from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Japan (CBCJ). It is a specially converted Toyota Mirai, a car that can only be recognized as a Toyota ‘hydrogen car’ when viewed straight from the front and straight from the rear.
Incidentally, the special Toyota Mirai is not brand new. Last year, Toyota donated two of these special Mirais to the CBCJ, one of which has now been given to Pope Francis himself. The timbered Mirai is 5.1 meters long and the roof of the scaffolding is no less than 2.7 meters above the asphalt. Even now the abbreviation SCV can be read on the license plate. That stands for ‘Status Civitatis Vaticanae’.
Church Prince Fransiscus has a preference for relatively modest transport. In the Vatican, for example, Francis drove around in a Renault 4. The Pope also had a 500L as transport during a visit to the United States and the church warden was even seen in an adapted Dacia Duster. Earlier, Pope Francis rejected an Aventador offered as a gift by Lamborghini.
