Toyota presents hydrogen-powered truck

Toyota is taking a new step in the field of hydrogen. The brand has started working on its first truck with that innovative fuel.

The Japanese brand has started developing a heavy-duty Fuel Cell Truck. The brand does not do this on its own, as Toyota has turned to Hino Motors Ltd, a company that is part of the Toyota Group. Both manufacturers say they are fully engaged in a proactive strategy with regard to climate problems. This new collaboration is part of this.

Toyota opts for hydrogen, because driving ‘on hydrogen’ can offer a great advantage for drivers in the future. Because trucks usually eat a lot of highway kilometers, it is important for drivers to be able to refuel quickly. The hydrogen technology is seen as the perfect new solution due to the rapid refueling options.

The Hino Profia is used as the basis for the hydrogen truck. This is currently not yet available in Europe, but is circulating in large numbers elsewhere in the world. It also takes a while before the Fuel Cell Truck comes to Europe, because Toyota focuses primarily on the Japanese market. Until then, we will have to do it with the Toyota Mirai.
