Always on the plug

The brand new Toyota Prius has a starting price of just under €45,000 in the Netherlands. This makes the new and always plug-in hybrid potential economy miracle more expensive than its plug-in predecessor, but offers much more in return.
In November 2022, Toyota added a new chapter to the Prius book. The all-new Toyota Prius builds on the concept of its predecessors, but looks much more appealing to the general public. Although the new Toyota Prius is also available with a conventional hybrid powertrain outside the Netherlands, it will only be available as a Plug-in Hybrid in the Netherlands. The new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid can be ordered immediately and has a starting price of €44,695. The first copies will arrive in the Netherlands in the third quarter of this year.

Before discussing his prices and equipment, let’s quickly run through his technical skills. The new Prius Plug-in Hybrid has a 148 hp 2.0 petrol engine that works together with a 160 hp electric motor. This gives the Toyota Prius Plug-in a system power of 223 hp and 208 Nm. This makes it almost twice as powerful as the previous generation Plug-in Hybrid (122 hp). That power helps the new plug-in Prius in 6.7 seconds at a speed of 100 km / h. The previous Prius Plug-in Hybrid needed 11.1 seconds for the same sprint. Much more relevant is the electric range. The new Toyota Prius Plug-in has a 13.6 kWh battery on board from which you can squeeze up to 86 electric kilometers. Mind you, the electric range concerns the Dynamic version. The Executive Edition and the Solar Edition – about which more later – can travel a maximum of 72 kilometers on a full battery.
The luggage compartment is 284 litres. In this area, however, it lags behind the previous model. The previous Prius Plug-in Hybrid had a luggage compartment of 360 litres.
Equipment Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid
The starting price of €44,695 applies to the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid in Dynamic trim. Standard features include bi-LED headlights, 17-inch light alloy, climate control split over two zones, a reversing camera, heated seats, a heated windshield and an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat. Heated and folding exterior mirrors? Present. The same applies to privacy glass, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch multimedia system. Toyota Safety Sense 3 is standard and that includes not only extensive adaptive cruise control, but also automatic high beam, traffic sign recognition and active lane assist. The previous but significantly less potent Prius Plug-in Hybrid was in the order books as Dynamic from €40,350.

Higher up on the menu is the Executive, which costs €47,195. You can recognize this version from the outside mainly by its continuous LED bar at the rear, which is missing on the Dynamic. In addition, the Prius from this version has a black B-pillar, black details in the bumper, black moldings in the grille and black wheel arch edges. Features include more advanced headlights, power tailgate, Smart Rear View Mirror with camera, heated steering wheel and 19-inch alloys. Those larger wheels do take a bite out of the electric range. Only the Executive is available with a panoramic roof at extra cost. You will have to pay an extra €1,395 for this.
Top version Solar Edition adds the Solar Roof with solar panels to the above, but also Intelligent Parking Assist, Intelligent Parking Assist, a memory function for the driver’s seat, black artificial leather upholstery, seat ventilation at the front and a heated rear seat. The Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Solar Edition is painted in the introduction color Sunset Yellow and costs €54,395.
