Toyota shows an electric SUV

Toyota is releasing a new teaser plate of the electric model it will soon be presenting in China. The front of the brand new SUV is already visible.

Toyota already announced in March that it would pull the curtain off an electric SUV during the Shanghai Motor Show that will take place later this month. Today Toyota shows a first teaser record that actually shows something of the appearance.

The merl describes its upcoming newcomer as ‘Toyota’s next step in electrification: Beyond Zero’. It could just be that Toyota is introducing an electric label under the name Beyond Zero, such as EQ for Mercedes-Benz and ‘i’ for BMW. Earlier in April, Techzle already showed a logo registered by Toyota from the database of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The letters ‘BZ’ were visible on that logo. Indeed, Beyond Zero.

The electric SUV of which we now see the nose may be the first electric car of that Beyond Zero label. Don’t be surprised if that electric Toyota gets a name like ‘BZ3’. The number indicates the placement in the Toyota range. The electric SUV is built on the new modular e-TNGA platform, a modular base specially designed for electric models. Count on a RAV4-sized SUV. The newcomer will make his public debut on April 19.

The upcoming electric SUV is not Toyota’s first EV, by the way. In China, the Toyota-GAC joint venture already sells an electric version of the C-HR, and Toyota sold a series of electric units of both the first and second generation RAV4 in the United States. We expect it on the market in Europe this year.
