Toyota Sport Crossover Concept

The Toyota news laps against the skirting boards and even drips over the edge. We are introduced to another conceptual electric Toyota, a production version of which will be launched in the Netherlands in the foreseeable future: the Toyota Sport Crossover Concept.

With appropriate fanfare, Toyota provides insight into the electric model offensive that it has prepared for Europe. The Japanese will expand their electric model range in Europe from one to six models until 2026. The bZ4X will be joined by five new EVs in the coming years. The just-revealed Urban SUV Concept is a preview of one of those newcomers, as is the Compact SUV Concept that Toyota showed last year. But there’s more. We now know more about one of those six newcomers.

In April this year, Toyota showed two new electric study models in Shanghai: the bZ Sport Crossover Concept and the bZ FlexSpace Concept. At the time, it remained tight-lipped about a possible arrival in Europe. In any case, the Toyota Sport Crossover Concept is not limited to the Chinese market. The manufacturer confirms that a derivative of that study model will be launched in Europe in 2025, including in the Netherlands.

The Toyota Sport Crossover Concept and its final production version were not fully developed in-house. The show car-derived EV is a joint development between Toyota and BYD. The BYD Toyota EV Technology (BTET) joint venture will be responsible for the development of the car. Toyota describes the Sport Crossover Concept as ‘an alternative’ to regular SUVs. The brand is undoubtedly referring to the relatively steeply sloping roofline. We aim for the final Sport Crossover to be longer, but especially lower, than the aforementioned Compact SUV Concept. The just-revealed Urban SUV Concept is one size smaller than the Compact SUV Concept. Technical data is not available yet.
