Toyota Starlet (1992) – Enthusiast Wanted

Few cars have such a strong reputation as the Toyota Starlet. As an affordable occasion, they were very popular for many years. We are now dealing with a car that, due to its age, is starting to belong more in an enthusiast’s corner. This white could use an enthusiast.

If you’ve been looking for an affordable and reliable car anywhere in the past 30 years, chances are you’ve come across the Toyota Starlet. Very strong, economical, smooth enough and often for a relative next to nothing. Many a driving life has therefore started in a Starlet. Nowadays Starlets may not necessarily be perfect starter cars because of their age and there is also some more modern good stuff for sale for the same money. That does not alter the fact that you can still have a pleasant four-wheeled companion on a Starlet. This white one even has it in its name: it is a 1.3 Friend.

This now 31-year-old ‘friend’ had one particularly long friendship, namely that with his first owner. The two separated only in September 2017, after 25 years. After that, there were five private individuals who only went on the road for a short time. Or does that betray that this Starlet does not quite live up to the reputation of the model? That does not necessarily have to be the case. At least on paper there aren’t really any ‘red flags’ around this Starlet. It has also only driven 111,000 km and still looks neat, especially on the inside.

The exterior of the Starlet also seems to be in pretty good order, although the once darker plastic could use a refresher. With a little bumper paint or some other good you can achieve a lot of credit here. An advantage of the white paint is that you can quickly spot any rust spots. That can’t hurt, because that was actually the only significant enemy of the Starlet. Oh and if an enthusiast does stand up for this copy, it would of course be nice if that person also knows how to complete the hubcap set again. You can only haggle a bit on the asking price of €1,900. For that money there should have been at least a complete set of caps.
