Up to and including 2030, Toyota will invest just under €3 billion in the production of batteries in the United States. The amount is part of the previously announced €11.4 billion that Toyota is investing in battery production worldwide.
In September, Toyota reported that it would invest 1.5 trillion yen worldwide, now about €11.3 billion, in the worldwide production of batteries for, among other things, electric cars. €2.92 billion of that will flow to the United States, Toyota indicates.
Toyota will eventually build a factory in the United States where it will produce lithium ion batteries. The factory should open its gates in 2025. According to Toyota, the construction and opening of that new factory will create 1,750 new jobs at the bottom of the line. Although the batteries to be produced are initially intended for cars with hybrid powertrains, they will eventually also be used in electric cars. Toyota says it wants to produce locally in order to reduce the price of battery packs for electric cars in the United States.
