New Yaris Sedan

Toyota introduces a brand new sedan version of the Yaris. Meet the new Toyota Yaris Ativ, a car that, apart from a part of its name, has little to do with the Yaris that you can buy in the Netherlands.
One Toyota Yaris is not the other. In the United States, for example, Toyota sold a Yaris hatchback and Yaris Sedan that were in fact little more than Mazdas 2 with Toyota badges. Then there’s the Yaris as you know it in Europe, the TNGA-based hatchback that goes through life internally as XP210. More Yaris madness? Secure. For example, Toyota sells the internally XP150 generation Yaris models in China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and in various South American countries. That series hardly related to the European Yaris models also has a sedan version that here and there is called Toyota Vios. In Thailand, Toyota now presents a completely new generation of the Yaris Sedan.
The outgoing Toyota Yaris Ativ (Thailand)
The Toyota Yaris Ativ already existed in Thailand and has now been replaced. He is swapping his old B platform for a variant of the DNGA base, Daihatsu’s developed range of modular platforms based on Toyota’s TNGA hardware. A new generation requires a new internal code name. The new Yaris Ativ reads AC100.
The platform under the new Toyota Yaris Ativ is the same DNGA-B variant that is also under the Daihatsu Rocky and its Toyota brother: the Raize. The Yaris Ativ only grows a few millimeters in length with its generation change, although the wheelbase increases by no less than 7 centimeters to 2.62 meters. The design of the Yaris Ativ is quite interesting. The sedan has a much slicker look than its predecessor with its continuing and sloping roofline further back. In addition, both the front and rear are clearly interspersed with design influences from big brother Corolla.
Toyota Yaris Ativ (2022)
Unlike the Corolla and the European-supplied Yaris, the new Toyota Yaris Ativ will not get hybrid powertrains. Under the hood is a 94 hp and 110 Nm strong 1.2, a four-cylinder that sends its power to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. The Yaris Ativ, in which Toyota has invested €143 million, will not be reserved for the Thai market but will eventually be sold in more than 35 countries. So we seem to be dealing with the successor to the full XP150 generation of the Yaris. Don’t be surprised if there is also a hatchback version.
Toyota Yaris Ativ (2022)
The Yaris Ativ must have a much higher quality finish than its predecessor and the car also makes steps in terms of equipment. For example, it will be available with mood lighting with 64 adjustable colors, a 7-inch large digital instrumentation, a 9-inch (optional) infotainment screen and parts of the interior are finished with soft touchmaterials. Also some available safety systems are fine. The Yaris Ativ comes with Toyota Safety Sense, an extensive package that includes automatic high beam, lane assistant, Pre-Collision System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a 360-degree camera. The new Toyota Yaris Ativ is available in Thailand as Premium Luxury, Premium, Smart and Sport and has a starting price of €14,830.
The Yaris Ativ is not coming to Europe. Is that a loss? Could a Toyota compact sedan – with suitable powertrains – make it here? We are curious about your opinions!
