Don’t lose any message: Here’s how to transfer WhatsApp from old to new iPhone. Here you can read step by step how that works.
Transfer WhatsApp from iPhone to iPhone
Apple makes it very easy to switch from an old to a new iPhone, but ‘forget’ to take the data from WhatsApp with you. Fortunately, you can fix this yourself by making an iCloud backup of your WhatsApp data before transferring the data from one iPhone to another.
Pay attention: Are you switching from an Android phone to an iPhone? Then WhatsApp transfer works a little differently, check our other article in which we explain this.

Make a WhatsApp backup
The first thing to do is to backup all your WhatsApp conversations. So you do this on your old iPhone. Fortunately, making a backup is done in no time, this works as follows.
Transfer WhatsApp from an old to a new iPhone:
- Open WhatsApp (on your old iPhone);
- Tap Settings in the bottom right corner of the screen;
- Tap ‘Chats’ and choose ‘Chat backup’;
- Choose “Back Up Now”
When you go through these steps, you can also immediately set WhatsApp to automatically back up your chats on a weekly or daily basis. However, we recommend that you make a new backup just before transferring data: this way you can be sure that your most recent conversations are successfully transferred from one iPhone to another.
Set up WhatsApp on your new iPhone
Once your new iPhone is set up, you can install and open WhatsApp. Then follow the steps on the screen to restore the backup you just made from iCloud. You can then resume where you left off. Once you’ve switched, you won’t be able to use WhatsApp on your old iPhone without transferring your data again.
