Triumph has revised the Speed Twin 1200 for model year 2025. And at the same time added a new, self-proclaimed even more dynamic model: the Speed Twin 1200 RS, which according to the British should be even more focused and responsive, and thus even more appealing.
A Marzocchi front fork and twin Marzocchi rear shocks, a refreshed engine that has an extra 5 horses at its disposal and new rider aids such as Optimised Cornering ABS and traction control, these are, in a nutshell, the innovations that Triumph has implemented in the 2025 Speed Twin. That plus the styling that has been refreshed.
The new RS model takes things up a notch. Starting with sportier ergonomics, thanks to a different seating position and rearward-positioned footpegs. And of course, premium components are fitted, including a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork, Öhlins rear shocks and Brembo Stylema brake calipers. A pair of Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres are fitted as standard and Triumph Shift Assist is fitted for the first time on a Modern Classic.
“Even more focused, even more engaging and even sharper in response, the new Speed Twin 1200 RS is designed for riders who want the very best in dynamic performance, with a classic sporty look.
The updates to the new Speed Twin 1200 are a significant evolution for this much-loved model and, as always, we’ve ensured we retain the superior handling and classic style that everyone admires, while introducing additional power and technology that seamlessly enhances the riding experience.”
There are two two-tone designs for the Speed Twin 1200, with a striking ‘1200’ tank graphic separating a Crystal White or Carnival Red top end from a Sapphire black bottom end that the British claim creates a sleeker look by making the tank appear shallower and longer. There’s also a more classically inspired Aluminium Silver option with discreet ‘1200’ numbering and twin black stripes.
The Speed Twin 1200 RS is available in two colours; bright Baja Orange or subtle Sapphire Black, both with gold RS decals that complement the anodised components.
In addition to the striking colour scheme, the Speed Twin 1200 and RS models each have their own specific riding position and component selection. Compared to its predecessor, Triumph has positioned the handlebars higher and further forward, for a more spacious riding position. The 43 mm Marzocchi front forks and twin Marzocchi rear shocks have been upgraded. The latter now have Piggyback reservoirs and adjustable spring preload.
According to Triumph, the changes made to the chassis should have increased the agility. New radial brake calipers with Triumph logo should provide excellent braking power in combination with the 320 mm discs, together with the standard Metzeler Sportec M9RR tires.
For riders looking for even more dynamic performance and added excitement, the new Speed Twin 1200 RS features a more engaged and focused riding position. With the rear of the bike raised, the seat height increases slightly. The handlebars remain at the same height as the previous generation but are moved further forward, while the footpegs are positioned slightly higher and further back.
The top-spec suspension matches the RS’s dynamic stance, with fully adjustable Marzocchi forks and Öhlins rear suspension. Added finesse comes from dual Brembo Stylema brake calipers on 320mm rotors and high-performance Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tyres as standard.
Then there’s the engine. Triumph has increased the compression ratio of the 1200 twin, as well as the peak power, which is now 105bhp at 7,750rpm – a gain of 5bhp. The 270° twin has a maximum torque of 112Nm, which is already delivered at 4,250rpm. Of course, the throttle response can be adjusted with riding modes. The standard version has a choice of Road and Rain, with Optimised Cornering ABS and traction control.
The sportier RS has an additional Sport riding mode, with a sharper throttle response and sportier traction control. The RS Speed Twin 1200 RS has another real first, it is the first model from the Bonneville platform to be equipped with the Triumph Shift Assist quickshifter with autoblipper.
The Speed Twin 1200 is available in the Netherlands from € 16,995, for the Speed Twin 1200 RS you have to put € 19,495 on the table. In Belgium these are respectively from € 15,295 and € 17,595.
