Triumph 2025 Trident 660: more tech, more fun

Triumph has given the Trident 660 a major overhaul for the 2025 model year. In addition to new fresh colors, the adjustments are mainly under the skin, with improved suspension and an improvement and expansion of electronic assistance systems, including Optimized Cornering ABS, Triumph Shift Assist and Cruise Control.

Triumph 2025 Trident 660: more tech, more fun

Introduced in 2020, the Trident 660 is the odd one out in its segment. Where most manufacturers in the A2-Naked segment have opted for a parallel twin, with the Mattighofen single-cylinder as the only alternative, Triumph has opted for a three-cylinder with the Trident 660. Logically, three-cylinders are in Triumph’s DNA.

That alone makes the Trident 660 unique. Add to that its own unique design and you understand why, according to Triumph, they have been selling like hot cakes in recent years. Exact figures were not mentioned during the presentation, but figures of 10,000 units per year were mentioned in the Q&A, although this was subject to change.

Triumph says it has listened to the customer’s wishes and has adapted the Trident 660 accordingly. For example, customers asked for more electronic driving assistance systems for more passive safety.

In response to customer demand, the Trident 660 now features extensive new equipment that is unrivaled in its class, with Optimized Cornering ABS and Traction Control, Triumph Shift Assist and cruise control all standard. The integrated TFT display and MyTriumph Bluetooth connectivity system offers turn-by-turn navigation, the ability to control calls and music, and there are three riding modes, including a new Sport mode.

Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer of Triumph:
“We first launched the Trident in 2020 with a unique combination of thrilling three-cylinder performance and character, confidence-inspiring handling and bold British styling. With its unbeatable running costs, it has also proven popular with riders of all ages and abilities, in markets around the world, and since its launch the Trident has won several major industry awards.

The addition of this technology once again raises the bar for this class. Building on the popularity of the striking, bold color scheme of our special edition Trident Triple Tribute, we’re introducing striking new colorways in Cosmic Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Diablo Red and Jet Black. But the most important thing for our customers is that every ride with the Trident 660 is extremely fun.”

But what exactly is different? Triumph has not made any adjustments to the engine itself, except for the adjustments for Euro5+. Other than that, it’s the same Triple with the same power delivery and the same performance: 81 hp of top power at 10,250 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm, more than 90% of which is delivered between 3,600 rpm and 9,750 rpm. The only difference compared to the current model is the addition of a third Sport driving mode, which should provide a slightly sharper throttle response.

Also new is the addition of Triumph’s Shift Assist, or an up/down quickshifter. Strictly speaking, of course, completely unnecessary, but a damn nice gadget. When asked whether a semi-automatic transmission will follow in the future, à la Yamaha’s Y-AMT, Triumph said it is closely monitoring developments in the market and will certainly consider it if there is a lot of demand for it.

Another adjustment that Triumph has made is to the suspension, which has been upgraded with Showa’s SFF-BF Big Piston front fork with separate functions: a fork leg for damping and a fork leg for suspension. In addition, Triumph has provided a spring preload-adjustable Showa RSU rear shock.

As for the electronics, Triumph has now equipped the 2025 Trident 660 with Optimized Cornering ABS and lean angle-dependent traction control, which is controlled via the well-known 6-axis IMU that calculates the brake pressure and throttle position based on various parameters. In addition, the British have also added cruise control. Triumph is therefore the first manufacturer in its class to use this technology.

The 2025 Trident 660 is available in the colors Cosmic Yellow, Cobalt Blue and Diablo Red. For those who the standard version is not sufficient, Triumph has 45 original accessories to choose from and of course the engine can be reset to A2 power. Available from December 2024 for a price tag of €9,595 (€8,795 BE).
