It is an open secret that Triumph is working hard on a new entry-level model for the A2 driving licence. A classic-looking model was recently spotted during test work.
You might not say it, but eleven years ago Triumph had already picked up the idea to put a light single-cylinder on the market like the 390 DUKE. Judging by the little Street Triple that was spotted during test work in Spain in the autumn of 2013, the bike was already at an advanced stage at the time, but the project was nevertheless halted in 2014.
That postponement is not a cancellation became clear three years later, when a partnership with the Indian giant Bajaj was announced in August 2017. The aim of the partnership was to enable the British to benefit from Bajaj’s knowledge and expertise in the field of light motorcycles. Indeed, those light motorcycles that Triumph had announced way back in 2011.
It was quiet for a while after the announcement of the partnership, but that could well have been the calm before the storm. The new little one Triumph, now spotted in the wild, seems to be fairly ready for production from the photos.
Where in 2013, the little Triumph still had a strong resemblance to the Street Triple, the now spotted bike has a much more classic look, a ‘little A2’ variant of the Street Twin. Although the upside-down front fork and the flat TFT display are actually just a bit too modern for that. Also notable is that Triumph has housed the chain drive on the right side.
We probably won’t have to wait very long for it, it is said that the first model of the Triumph-Bajaj partnership will be put on the market in 2023.
