Triumph has launched an A2 variant of the Street Triple 765 R. The Street Triple 765 R A2 is powered by a revised three-cylinder engine producing a peak power of 70kW, which can be downgraded to 35kW via an optional A2 kit, making it accessible to the new generation of A2 licence holders.
We get it, to be honest. Or rather, we’ve never understood Triumph’s decision to power the A2 version of the Street Triple with an Australian-only 660 three-cylinder, rather than simply make a 70kW version of the 765 Triple. Why make a model with less displacement when the same thing can be achieved with a heavier engine?
Apparently, they have now also realized in Hinckley that this was not a good idea, as evidenced by the new Street Triple 765 R A2 that has now been announced. According to Triumph, the A2 version is the same as the current Street Triple 765 R in all respects, except for the block that has been downgraded to 70 kW to comply with the A2 driving license guideline to be able to downgrade to 35 kW. Once the two years of A2 are over, the kit can be removed at the dealer and you will once again have the maximum power of 70 kW, or 95 hp.
“Many new riders can’t wait to jump on a naked bike with an aggressive attitude and a high specification. And now they don’t have to wait any longer. This variant of the Street Triple 765 R is an exciting addition to the A2 segment, making performance, style, razor-sharp agility and our signature triple sound accessible to A2 riders.”
The current Street Triple 765 R first arrived in Triumph dealers in 2023 with upgrades to the engine that the British company says are directly derived from its Moto2 racing programme. This has resulted in a significant step-up in performance, with more torque and greater responsiveness. With its aggressive styling, improved ergonomics and lavish equipment, this latest generation Street Triple 765 is looking set to perform exceptionally well on the international stage.
The A2 version of the Street Triple 765 R will be available in two new colourways: a stylish Matt Baja Orange or a striking Pure White. The bike will be available from September 2024 with prices starting from €12,195 in the Netherlands and €10,795 in Belgium.
