Triumph has rolled out a recall for the Daytona 660. Air can enter the oil channels, which means that the crankshaft does not get enough lubrication. In the most extreme case, the block can get stuck as a result.
After receiving several complaints from customers – 27 reports and 18 warranty claims, the first of that on July 17, 2024 – Triumph has conducted research into the crankshaft bearings, which had insufficient lubrication.
Triumph learned that the lack of lubrication is caused by air that ends up in the oil channels as a result of slots during aggressive slowing down, causing the oil pressure to fall back and the oil flow is disturbed.
However, the solution of the problem turned out to be childishly simple. During tests, the defect was constantly reproduced under specific conditions, but when the oil level in the Carter was raised, no relapse in oil pressure was found anymore and the performance of the block remained stable.
With the Triumph dealer, the oil level will be raised and a custom arrow stick will be installed, so that the correct oil level can be read.
Although the issue plays for 100% of the units to which the recall applies, that does not mean that it has also led to motor damage with all those units. The relapse of oil pressure as a result of air in the oil channels was only in extremely hard braking, and that must have played for a longer period of time before there is actually damage to the bearing scales.
Triumph says he has received a total of 13 complaints from customers, 27 reports and 18 warranty claims. In no each of the claims has this led to personal injury.
