The so-called check brake is a dangerous act in which a vehicle in front applies the brakes hard to give a certain signal to the vehicle behind it. What seems? No less than ninety percent of Dutch truck drivers indicate that they have experienced this form of life-threatening road aggression several times.

Road rage: we’ve all suffered from it in some way. Raised middle fingers, being cut off and extensive audiovisual signals: the number of dubious ways to make it clear to your fellow road user that you are not charmed by his or her road behavior for whatever reason. However, some of the Dutch motorists apparently think it is also fine to step on the brake in front of the vehicle that is causing the frustration. Check brakes is this called, and it has nothing to do with checking the brakes … Dangerous of course, but guess what? Tons of trucks also often have to endure such automotive stupidity.

No less than 86.9 percent of the Dutch professional drivers has experienced such an action and no less than 77.3 percent of the truck drivers indicate that they have been several times defect checked. This is apparent from the National Drivers Survey conducted by HR service provider Logistic Force among 824 Dutch drivers.

And then you have to think that check brake is not even the biggest annoyance of the Dutch truck driver. The biggest annoyance: cars that shoot right in front of a truck when merging. Try and observe it from your high cab. Check brakes is number two in the top 5 biggest road annoyances for Dutch truck drivers, followed by fellow road users who are distracted by their mobile phone, motorists who drive slower than 80 km/h on the highway and nuisance caused by merging or merging vehicles.
