King of the Dredging on the salt

Indian Motorcycle, together with S&S Cycle and Mission Foods, went to the iconic Bonneville Salt flats with one question: how hard can their King of the Baggers machine really? The answer: almost 200 mph. O

More than just a record

According to Gary Gray, VP Product Technology at Indian Motorcycle, the project was not just about figures. “Bonneville is sacred ground. This was not only about putting a Land Speed Mark, but also to honor the legends that preceded us and push ourselves to the limit.”

Indian’s DNA: Speed

Since 1901, racing has been running like a common thread through the history of Indian Motorcycle. From Burt Munro’s crazy runs on Bonneville to the modern King of the Baggers dominance, it is always about pushing boundaries. With this new record, Indian proves that that spirit is still alive and kicking – and faster than ever.

Technology behind the run

The challenger that made Bonneville unsafe was far from standard. The S&S team set the 1768cc V-twin completely on sharply with adapted mapping, Race-Spec Fuel injection and internal upgrades that are resistant to long-term full gas on the salt plains. The aerodynamics received extra attention: the full dredger kuip was fine-tuned for stability at +300 km/h, while a longer gearing and special tires ensured that the engine continued effortlessly. Everything revolved around one thing: top speed, without concessions.
