Uber and Renault-Nissan will collaborate in Europe

Uber will financially support drivers with the switch to electric cars, the taxi service announced. The goal is to make all trips in electric vehicles by 2030. To help drivers in the transition to electric driving, Uber is earmarking an equivalent amount of € 679 million. In Europe, Uber has entered into a partnership with Renault-Nissan.

The American company has set some ambitious goals. Ultimately, the aim is for Uber’s entire business operations to be completely climate-neutral by 2040, with 100% of the journeys taking place in zero-emission vehicles. But in the near future, Uber already wants all rides in American, Canadian and European cities to be run with EVs. To support its drivers in purchasing an electric car, Uber is earmarking an equivalent amount of € 679 million. The taxi service will partner with Renault-Nissan in Europe to offer a discount on the purchase of a Renault Zoe or Nissan Leaf, but drivers who make the switch will also earn more per trip. In this way, electric driving should become financially attractive for drivers, which should ultimately accelerate the transition.

It is not new that Uber is engaged in a sustainability offensive. The taxi service introduced Uber Green in the Netherlands at the end of June, with which customers can opt for a ride that is 100% electric via the app. The partner drivers receive a charge card via Vandebron, with which Uber has a partnership. In a way, the company’s Dutch initiative is a precursor to what is to come in the rest of the world, as Uber indicates that it wants to actively work with governments and municipalities to achieve the climate goals and make the transition easier for the partner drivers. to make. The cooperation is beneficial for Renault-Nissan because the taxi industry will form an additional sales market for the group’s EVs.
