Apple has announced a series of new devices in 2023, but has also discontinued a number of products. You will no longer see these five Apple devices.
Apple in 2023
The year is largely over for Apple, as no major new announcements are expected in 2023. This year Apple announced the Apple Vision Pro, the first new product since the introduction of the Apple Watch in 2014. In addition, we saw this year the iPhone 15, twice the MacBook Pro 2023 and the Apple Watch Series 9.
That was not all, because Apple also presented the new iMac and a new generation of MacBook Air. It was striking that Apple did not unveil any new iPads, which is the first time since the tablet was announced in 2010. In addition to a series of new products, Apple has also discontinued a number of devices this year. Apple will permanently discontinue these five products in 2023!
1. The iPhone mini
There were already rumors about this in the run-up to the iPhone 15 event. Apple would stop selling the iPhone 13 mini in 2023. Those rumors became reality after the presentation of the iPhone 15, because the iPhone 13 mini is no longer produced. As a result, there is no longer a small iPhone with a borderless screen and Face ID. If you want a small iPhone, you now have to rely on the iPhone SE 2022.
2. 13-inch MacBook Pro
At the last Apple event in 2023, Apple announced a new generation of the MacBook Pro. That meant the end of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which was still equipped with the Touch Bar. The small MacBook Pro has now been replaced by the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the entry-level model with the new M3 chip. Do you still want a MacBook with a 13-inch screen? Then fortunately we still have the MacBook Air 2022.
3. MagSafe Battery Pack
After the introduction of the iPhone 15, Apple not only discontinued the iPhone 13 mini, the MagSafe Battery Pack also had to be retired in 2023. The wireless charger significantly extends the battery life of your iPhone. All you had to do was click the power bank onto the back of your iPhone via magnets. Apple is reportedly working on a successor to MagSafe, which will make wireless charging even better.
4. MagSafe Duo Charger
In addition to the MagSafe Battery Pack, the MagSafe Duo Charger also disappeared from Apple’s range in 2023. The wireless charger could simultaneously power two devices, such as an iPhone and Apple Watch. The double MagSafe charger cost no less than 149 euros. It is quite possible that Apple is working on a successor that works with the new generation of MagSafe. But that remains to be seen.
5. Leather accessories
Apple plans to be carbon neutral by 2030 and has taken major steps in the right direction by 2023. The company has introduced a special ‘Carbon Neutral’ logo and the Apple Watch Series 9 is even Apple’s first carbon neutral product.
Leather accessories obviously do not fit within this climate goal, which is why Apple will stop all leather phone cases and other products in 2023. Instead, the company now offers the FineWoven phone cases. It remains to be seen whether this new material will be a success. In any case, the first reactions were not positive.
What will Apple do in 2024?
Apple will therefore say goodbye to a number of products in 2023. It is expected that 2024 will be an important year for Apple, with the release of the Apple Vision Pro, the iPhone 16 and new iPads.
