Microsoft will roll out a new security update in a few months that should make Windows 11 more secure for those who still work from home a lot. What will change with this Windows 11 update?
Microsoft explains that it is rolling out a security update to better protect home workers from rogue apps and other security threats that users face. But the extra protective layer for Windows 11 you don’t get it just like that: you have to reinstall the operating system in its entirety.
Smart App Control
Only then can you take advantage of the new Smart App Control function, which should better block malicious software. Since the feature is fully implemented in Windows 11, the app can identify potential threats within running processes.
For example, digital certificates are checked, but a new model based on artificial intelligence is also used to estimate whether a program you have downloaded is actually safe. Any apps labeled as shadowy by Windows 11 are immediately blocked.
Smart App Control is not the only feature introduced with the upcoming security update. Improvements are also made to the security of your account settings and to the encryption options.
Zero Trust Policy
As part of Microsoft’s Zero Trust policy, the company aims to improve protection against phishing attacks, while better protecting users if they end up on rogue websites.
“Microsoft is continuously investing in improving standard security options for Windows and is focused on addressing potential security holes,” said Microsoft’s David Weston.
22H2 update
The new security update will be part of the upcoming 22H2 update for Windows 11. If you’re running the current Windows 11 version 22H1 or older, you’ll need to reset your PC in a few months. If you don’t, you won’t be able to install the new update and you still run security risks.
Switch from 10 to 11
If you have not yet made the switch from Windows 10 to 11, then you can consider waiting a little longer until the 22H2 update has appeared. This way you don’t have to set up the operating system twice in a short time.
Since October 5, 2021, PC users can gradually upgrade to Microsoft’s new operating system, and you can buy new Windows 11 laptops. But what’s new? Can you upgrade at all?
In another article, we’ll look at the new features that Windows 11 brings. We also explain how to install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC.
