Five years after the launch of the new 900 parallel twin, BMW Motorrad has updated both the F 900 R and the F 900 XR. In addition to some weight savings here and there, the Germans have improved the electronics package.
“No really significant differences, but improved in detail,” is in a nutshell what BMW has updated on the 2025 F 900 R and F 900 XR. For example, with the 895cc parallel twin, which as before is specified for a top power of 105 hp – but now in accordance with Euro 5+ – the Germans say they have newly tuned the standard Dynamic driving mode for more driving pleasure and dynamics with a sporty style. However, what they changed remains unmentioned.
In contrast to the engine, BMW has made serious adjustments to the chassis. Both models are equipped with a new 43 mm upside down front fork that is now fully adjustable, both in terms of compression and rebound damping and spring preload. More interesting, however, are the new 17″ aluminum cast wheels, which have saved approximately 1.8 kilos of weight. Unsprung weight, which you will certainly notice when steering.
As another new part of the standard equipment, the new F models offer the BMW Motorrad ABS Pro. In contrast to the BMW Motorrad ABS, ABS Pro goes even further and also offers more safety when braking in bends by enabling ABS-supported braking in a lean angle.
As another now standard safety feature, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) provides even greater safety when braking, even in difficult situations, by preventing unintended throttle operation.
Both models are now equipped with an 800 gram lighter battery, while the indicators at the rear have been given integrated functionality. This means that the rear light and brake light are now housed in the indicator. Personally, we are not in favor of this, but BMW clearly thinks differently about it.
The new BMW F 900 XR is equipped as standard with Headlight Pro including daytime running lights and adaptive cornering lights for even more safety when driving at night. Other standard new features of the BMW F 900 XR include the USB-C charging port on the right side of the dashboard with a charging current of up to 2.4 A and heated grips.
BMW Motorrad also says it has revised the triangular relationship between handlebars, seat and footpegs on the new BMW F 900 R by changing the positions of all three, which should have resulted in a significantly sportier and more front-wheel-oriented seating position. The increased sporting ambitions of the new BMW F 900 R are emphasized by the side cladding of the headlight, which is painted in the color of the motorcycle.
The new BMW F 900 XR, on the other hand, should offer even more touring and long-distance comfort thanks to optimized aerodynamics at the front, according to the Germans. The newly designed wind deflector reduces wind pressure on the rider, resulting in significantly less helmet vibration and therefore even more riding comfort. Enhanced wind and weather protection is also provided by the standard handguards in all equipment variants.
The new BMW F 900 R is offered in three attractive color schemes. As a basic variant in the body color Snapper Rocks Blue metallic, in the Triple Black variant in Blackstorm metallic and in Light white uni / Racing blue metallic as a Sport variant.
The new BMW F 900 XR will also start the coming motorcycle season in three variants and color schemes. As a basic variant in Racing Red uni, as Triple Black in Blackstorm metallic and as a Sport variant in Light white uni / Racing blue metallic.
In terms of prices, the dynamic roadster BMW F 900 R is available from a suggested retail price of €10,200 and the BMW F 900 XR from €14,650. Please note, this is in the boring standard color blue (R) and red (XR) and excludes the Comfort and Dynamic option packages, which include cruise control, the Dynamic Pro driving mode, up/down quickshifter and Dynamic ESA. Including the options, you are already at around 13,000 euros for the R and 17,000 euros for the XR. And you haven’t even selected all the options yet.
