As with the AirPods, the AirPods Max also receives regular software updates. Although Apple does not always tell you what exactly will be implemented in these updates, it is advisable to install these new versions soon.

Although the AirPods Max does not have a physical ‘update button’, you can check if you already have the new version. It would also work to connect the AirPods Max to the socket with a cable to force the latest update.

At the time of writing, version 3C39 is the most recent firmware version.

  1. Make sure the AirPods Max is paired with your iPhone or iPad;

  2. Open the Settings app;

  3. Choose ‘General’;

  4. Choose ‘Info’;

  5. Scroll to the AirPods and tap on it;

  6. Look at the number after ‘Firmware version’.

For example, such firmware updates fix problems, improve the connection between the headphones and your devices, or affect battery life.

The headphones do not need to ask for permission to download a new version, this is done completely in the background. It is therefore possible that the update is downloaded during the night and has now been installed.
