It’s easy to upset your stomach: Often it’s enough to eat too much or “something wrong”. But with the right home remedies, you can alleviate the unpleasant symptoms.

There are many reasons why your stomach may be overloaded or upset. Often it is because you ate too quickly or too much – or it is because of food that was no longer good. If you have upset your stomach, you will notice symptoms such as an unpleasant feeling of fullness, (mild) nausea and possibly even vomiting and diarrhea.

These symptoms usually disappear on their own once the body has gotten rid of the excess food or toxins. However, you can get relief with the right home remedies.

Various home remedies can help with an upset stomach. You will find six listed below – one of them is sure to help you too.

  • Drink tea: Various herbal teas soothe the stomach. For example, try chamomile tea, fennel tea or a fennel-anise-caraway mixture.

  • Light food: If you have stomach problems, you should only eat very light food for the rest of the day – if at all. For example, opt for rusks or thin soups. Important: Avoid fatty and difficult-to-digest foods, spicy spices and raw foods.

  • Take care of your body: Do not put additional strain on your stomach – if you have an upset stomach, you should avoid consuming alcohol and nicotine.

  • Remineralize: If you vomit or have diarrhea, your body loses a lot of fluids and minerals. In this case, you should drink a lot. Tip: You can get special electrolyte solutions from the pharmacy that you can add to water to normalize your salt balance. But you can also make them yourself: Make your own electrolyte solution: First aid for diarrhea.

  • Heat helps: If you also suffer from stomach pain, a warm bath or a hot water bottle will help. This relaxes the stomach.

  • Ginger is soothing: Ginger also helps if you have an upset stomach. Get a piece of fresh ginger root and chew on it. Alternatively, you can drink ginger tea.

Upset stomach: When should you see a doctor?

Although an upset stomach is usually nothing serious, in some cases a medical examination is recommended:

  • People with a weak immune system should see a doctor if they have gastrointestinal problems. This includes babies, young children, the elderly and sick people.
  • If symptoms persist for more than two to three days, you should also seek medical attention.
  • You should also seek medical help if other symptoms such as fever occur or if the symptoms worsen.
  • Pregnant women should also consult a doctor if they have stomach problems.
